ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the cold-blooded murder by unknown assailants of Express News journalist Iftikhar Ahmed in Shabqadar area of the Charsadda district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi, in a statement, called for the arrest of the killer without delay.                   

Iftikhar Ahmed was returning home after Isha prayers when he was shot dead near the mosque.                                        

PFUJ leaders said that attacks and loss of journalists' lives are alarming, and police and law enforcement agencies have failed to provide safety and security to journalists and media workers.

"In just 24 hours, one senior journalist (Ayaz Amir) was attacked in Lahore, another (Iftikhar Ahmed) was killed in Shabqadar, Charsada and Ishtiaq Ahmad in Ranipur, which indicates failure of the provincial and federal governments," they reminded.                                         

We urge concrete measures for the safety and security of those working with media, PFUJ demanded.
